The Task

Remember that your group is investigating the Boston Massacre as a group of American colonists or a group of English soldiers.  As a group you must investigate exactly what happened at the Boston Massacre.  You will need to study the reports, articles, testimony, and pictures of the Boston Massacre and determine exactly whose fault it was that those five colonists were killed.  Was this actually a massacre or were the soldiers provoked and acting in self defense?  The American colonists will find reasons for the soldiers being at fault and the English soldiers will find reasons for the American colonists being at fault.

The Process Of Doing The Webquest
  1. Get into your groups of American colonists and English soldiers.
  2. Select your group's resources from the top menu of this page, either American colonists or English soldiers.
  3. Go to the various websites to access information and take notes on the information that supports your group or goes against the other group.
  4. Each group should make a list of reasons and evidence that proves that the other side started the Boston Massacre and that your own group was innocent.
  5. Your group must post to the discussion blog by going to the "Whose Fault?" page. Follow the directions for commenting on the discussion question.
  6.  Upon completion of steps 1-5, each student should play the interactive game, THE BOSTON MASSACRE FILES, to further investigate this event and to see which side you really believe was correct.
